Driving: pick the right exit to save a detour

From any direction, for the Wulingyuan area leave the expressway at the Zhangjiajie West toll gate; from there take Wulingshan Avenue or the Zhangqing Highway — about 20–30 minutes to the East Gate (Wulingyuan) or West Gate (Yangjiajie). The wrong exit means crossing the city and a long detour.

High-speed rail: Zhangjiajie West Station

High-speed and bullet trains stop at Zhangjiajie West Station, which has a bus station inside for easy transfers. Direct city–scenic buses run to Wulingyuan (East Gate) and the Forest Park (South Gate) in about 30–50 minutes; the West, North and Central gates have no direct bus — take a taxi or hired car.

Regular trains: Zhangjiajie Station

K/T/Z trains stop at Zhangjiajie Station, next to the Central Bus Station, with frequent departures to the gates — very convenient.

Flights: Hehua International Airport

Flights land at Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport. There is no direct scenic-area shuttle; transfer in the city — take a bus or taxi to the Central Bus Station and change to a scenic-area bus; with heavy luggage, a taxi straight to your hotel is easiest.

In-park transport

Shuttle buses link the areas inside the park, with cableways and the Bailong Elevator as auxiliary transport — all require separate tickets (children aged 13 and under travel free including in-park transport tickets; subject to the park’s daily policy).

FAQ

What are the highlights and features of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park?
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was China’s first national forest park and is the core of the Wulingyuan World Natural Heritage site. It is famed for more than three thousand quartz-sandstone pillars — “an enlarged bonsai, a miniature wonderland.” The key sights are Yuanjiajie (Hallelujah Mountain), Tianzishan (Yubi Peak), Golden Whip Stream and Huangshizhai; a visit usually takes 2–3 days.
What is the relationship between the Forest Park and Wulingyuan?
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the core of the Wulingyuan World Natural Heritage site. “Wulingyuan” generally refers to this area of peak forests — Yuanjiajie, Tianzishan, Golden Whip Stream, Yangjiajie and the Ten-Mile Gallery; visiting the Forest Park means visiting the heart of Wulingyuan.
How do I get to the scenic area?
From downtown Zhangjiajie you can reach the Forest Park gate (Zhangjiajie Village) or the Wulingyuan landmark gate by shuttle bus or a hired car in about 40 minutes to an hour; drivers can navigate to the parking lot at the relevant gate.
What does the Forest Park admission include?
The admission covers entry to core areas such as the Forest Park, Tianzishan, Yangjiajie, Golden Whip Stream and the Ten-Mile Gallery; it is valid for 4 days with unlimited re-entry. In-park transport (Bailong Elevator, Tianzishan Cableway, shuttle buses) needs separate tickets.
