Renaming Announcement and Document Basis

On November 4, reporters found in the "Notices and Announcements" column of the website of the Ministry of Land and Resources that "Hunan Zhangjiajie Sandstone Peak Forest National Geopark" was renamed "Hunan Zhangjiajie National Geopark" in the form of Document No. 1452 of the Department of Land and Resources [2015]. This announcement shows that the name "Hunan Zhangjiajie National Geopark" has been recognized.

Park Composition and Ecosystem

It is understood that Zhangjiajie National Geopark is not only the first national geopark in Hunan, but also one of the first batch of national geoparks. It consists of four major scenic spots in Wulingyuan, including Zhangjiajie, Suoxiyu, Tianzi Mountain, and Yangjiajie, as well as Huanglong Cave. It has a complete ecosystem of mountains, water, bridges, caves, and waterfalls. It is a rare natural museum and a rare tourist attraction. Because the Wulingyuan Sandstone Peak Forest Landform in the core scenic area represents a unique landform and natural geographical characteristics on the earth, it was named "Hunan Zhangjiajie Sandstone Peak Forest National Geopark" when it was selected as a national geopark in 2001. In 2004, Zhangjiajie was listed as a World Geopark by UNESCO. In November 2010, the Wulingyuan sandstone peak forest landform in Zhangjiajie was recognized as the "Zhangjiajie landform" by international geological experts.

Significance and Impact of the Renaming

"Hunan Zhangjiajie National Geopark" has been renamed this time. Industry insiders believe that it scientifically and comprehensively reflects the rare and unique geological heritage resources of Zhangjiajie, and it is also of positive significance for the publicity and promotion of the park.
