One-day highlights route

For a single day, focus on the two biggest areas — Yuanjiajie + Tianzishan — going up by the Bailong Elevator and down by the Tianzishan Cableway for a smooth loop with little backtracking.

Suggested order

  • 07:30 Enter from the Forest Park gate (or the Wulingyuan landmark gate), shuttle to Shuizhaosi;
  • 08:30 Ride the Bailong Elevator up to Yuanjiajie, tour Mihun Terrace, the First Bridge Under Heaven and Hallelujah Mountain (Qiankun Pillar);
  • 12:00 Lunch and rest at Yuanjiajie;
  • 13:00 Shuttle to Tianzishan, tour Yubi Peak, Xiannü Sanhua and Helong Park;
  • 15:30 Ride the Tianzishan Cableway down, then shuttle out of the park.

Tips

  • In peak season the Bailong Elevator queue is long — go up as soon as the park opens;
  • The summit is 5–8°C cooler than the valley — bring a jacket;
  • With two or more days, combine with Golden Whip Stream and Ten-Mile Gallery — the ticket is valid for 4 days, so there’s no rush.

FAQ

What are the highlights and features of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park?
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was China’s first national forest park and is the core of the Wulingyuan World Natural Heritage site. It is famed for more than three thousand quartz-sandstone pillars — “an enlarged bonsai, a miniature wonderland.” The key sights are Yuanjiajie (Hallelujah Mountain), Tianzishan (Yubi Peak), Golden Whip Stream and Huangshizhai; a visit usually takes 2–3 days.
Can I finish the Forest Park in one day?
Yes, but only the highlights. The park is large and a full visit is best over 2–3 days; for one day, focus on Yuanjiajie + Tianzishan.
How should I arrange Yuanjiajie, Tianzishan and Golden Whip Stream?
The classic combo is “Bailong Elevator up to Yuanjiajie, shuttle to Tianzishan, Tianzishan Cableway down,” covering the two biggest areas in one day; Golden Whip Stream is flat and good for an easy hike on another day.
Yuanjiajie or Tianzishan — which is more worth seeing?
Both are highlights: Yuanjiajie for the shaped peaks of “Hallelujah Mountain” and the First Bridge Under Heaven, Tianzishan for Yubi Peak and wide panoramas over the sea of clouds. If time is tight, visit both (link them with the elevator up and the cableway down); if you must pick one, choose Yuanjiajie for dramatic peaks or Tianzishan for open cloud-sea views.
