Feasible ways to visit

The Forest Park is mountainous, but combining cableways, the elevator and shuttle buses lets visitors with limited mobility still see the highlights.

  • Bailong Elevator and the Yangjiajie, Tianzishan and Huangshizhai cableways cut out many steps;
  • The Ten-Mile Gallery train is a gentle route, good for wheelchairs and strollers;
  • The Golden Whip Stream boardwalk is fairly level, but some sections have steps and slopes.

Wheelchair and stroller notes

  • Cableways and the elevator are wheelchair-friendly but still need assistance to board;
  • Boardwalks and viewing platforms are mostly stone slabs/steps — pushing can be hard in places;
  • Shops and service points can give basic help; travel with companions and allow extra time.

Tips for travelling with seniors

  • Prefer cableways plus shuttle buses to cut walking and climbing;
  • Carry regular medication, knee supports and non-slip shoes;
  • Avoid peak crowds; keep the itinerary relaxed with plenty of rest.

FAQ

What are the highlights and features of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park?
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was China’s first national forest park and is the core of the Wulingyuan World Natural Heritage site. It is famed for more than three thousand quartz-sandstone pillars — “an enlarged bonsai, a miniature wonderland.” The key sights are Yuanjiajie (Hallelujah Mountain), Tianzishan (Yubi Peak), Golden Whip Stream and Huangshizhai; a visit usually takes 2–3 days.
Is it convenient with children and seniors?
Yes. Making good use of the Bailong Elevator, the Tianzishan Cableway and shuttle buses saves a lot of climbing, so seniors and children can tour comfortably; Golden Whip Stream is flat throughout. Mind the safety of cliffside platforms and bring an extra jacket.
What does the Forest Park admission include?
The admission covers entry to core areas such as the Forest Park, Tianzishan, Yangjiajie, Golden Whip Stream and the Ten-Mile Gallery; it is valid for 4 days with unlimited re-entry. In-park transport (Bailong Elevator, Tianzishan Cableway, shuttle buses) needs separate tickets.
Can I finish the Forest Park in one day?
Yes, but only the highlights. The park is large and a full visit is best over 2–3 days; for one day, focus on Yuanjiajie + Tianzishan.
