Wulingyuan Welcomes Nearly 6.37 Million Visitors During Summer Holiday
The tourism department of Wulingyuan District in Zhangjiajie City announced today that this summer, Wulingyuan, the core scenic area of Zhangjiajie and a World Natural Heritage site, saw tourism nearly "bursting at the seams." In July and August, Wulingyuan District received nearly 6.37 million domestic and international visitors, a year-on-year increase of over 36%, setting a new record for summer holiday arrivals.
Student Family Trips and Independent Travel Surpass Previous Years
Looking at the visitor groups received, the leisure-oriented student family travel and independent travel markets also greatly exceeded previous years. During the summer, in the two main areas of Wulingyuan urban district and Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, as well as in Tianzi Mountain Town and Zhonghu Township, self-driving cars poured in every day. According to incomplete statistics, independent individual travelers accounted for about 60% of total arrivals.
In terms of tour routes, the premium route through the core scenic area — Tianzi Mountain–Yuanjiajie–Yangjiajie–Huangshizhai — and the secondary routes to the peripheral attractions of Baofeng Lake, Huanglong Cave and Xibu Old Street effectively drove markets from various regions. According to statistics, visitors choosing the Tianzi Mountain–Yuanjiajie–Yangjiajie–Huangshizhai premium route accounted for more than 80% of total arrivals. As the core transport on this premium route, the Bailong Elevator, Yangjiajie Cableway and Huangshizhai Cableway shouldered the largest transport task of carrying visitors up and down the mountains during the summer. In July and August, the Bailong Elevator carried over 1.06 million visitors; the Yangjiajie Cableway carried nearly 690,000 visitors; and the Huangshizhai Cableway carried nearly 250,000 visitors.
Timed Reservation and Other Measures Ease Queuing
In terms of service assurance, reception order at the major scenic areas was generally good this year, with no major tourism complaints. In particular, to alleviate the prominent queuing problem, Wulingyuan District effectively optimized the visitor entry environment and improved the quality of tours through measures such as reasonably regulating visitor entry frequency, timed reservation for tours, limited ticket sales, and staggered diversion.
In terms of reception safety, in response to the heavy rainfall and high temperatures that may occur frequently during the summer, the main leaders of Wulingyuan District and the Zhangjiajie Scenic Area Management Bureau supervised on the front lines by area. Functional units such as tourism, public security, industry and commerce, traffic police and health strengthened duty staffing and safety precautions. At the same time, the "10-minute scenic area emergency rescue and treatment circle" was strengthened, and service guarantees such as visitor emergency rescue and medical assistance were well prepared. The Tourism Work Committee of Wulingyuan District also launched a concentrated rectification of nine aspects of tourism order, including scenic area business order and environmental sanitation, striving to create a safe, civilized, harmonious and orderly tourism environment. Throughout the summer, the entire district saw not a single major tourism complaint.
