North Gate — Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (Tianzishan)

Ticket details

Includes the Forest Park, Tianzishan, Yangjiajie and Golden Whip Stream; valid for four days

Ticket Details

The North Gate is the Tianzishan gate: a road bus goes directly up to the summit area — less effort, and good for seniors and children or for sunrise and sunset on the mountain. There is no direct public transport, so take a taxi or a hired car; by car, leave the expressway at the Zhangjiajie West toll gate. Private cars cannot enter the park — park outside the gate and switch to the park shuttle.

Booking Notes

1. Real-name ticket; please bring your ID card. 2. The ticket is valid for 4 days, allowing multiple entries. 3. In-park transport (cableways, elevators, shuttle buses) requires separate tickets. 4. Unused tickets can be refunded via “Order Lookup”, returned to the original payment method once approved; tickets already used or expired are non-refundable.

Getting There & Transfers

The great advantage of the North Gate, the Tianzishan gate, is that a road bus goes straight up to the summit area once you are inside — no flights of steps, none of the long climb, which makes it the least strenuous gate for families with seniors or small children.\nThe gate sits on the northern side of the park and no public transport reaches it: neither the high-speed rail station nor the city bus station runs a service, so take a taxi or a hired car. By car, navigate to the Tianzishan ticket gate; there is a car park at the gate and spaces are easier to find than at the East Gate.\nUp on the summit, the Tianzishan area is the handiest place for sunrise and sunset — early and late light gives the most definition across the peak forest, and anyone chasing those two windows usually stays on the mountain. If you stay for sunset, confirm the last shuttle time before you go down, and do not get left up there.\nArriving by air at Hehua International Airport? There is no scenic-area shuttle — transfer at the Central Bus Station in the city first. Arriving by high-speed rail at Zhangjiajie West Station? There is no bus to the North Gate either, so both ends need a taxi or a hired car. Children aged 13 and under travel free, in-park transport tickets included, so the effort and the cost both come down for a family going this way. Private cars cannot enter the park — park outside the gate and switch to the park shuttle. The ticket is valid for 4 days with unlimited re-entry from any gate; if you are staying on the summit, entering via the North Gate keeps the walk with your luggage to a minimum and buys you a little more sleep before sunrise the next morning.

FAQ

What are the highlights and features of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park?
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was China’s first national forest park and is the core of the Wulingyuan World Natural Heritage site. It is famed for more than three thousand quartz-sandstone pillars — “an enlarged bonsai, a miniature wonderland.” The key sights are Yuanjiajie (Hallelujah Mountain), Tianzishan (Yubi Peak), Golden Whip Stream and Huangshizhai; a visit usually takes 2–3 days.
What does the Forest Park admission include?
The admission covers entry to core areas such as the Forest Park, Tianzishan, Yangjiajie, Golden Whip Stream and the Ten-Mile Gallery; it is valid for 4 days with unlimited re-entry. In-park transport (Bailong Elevator, Tianzishan Cableway, shuttle buses) needs separate tickets.
How should I arrange Yuanjiajie, Tianzishan and Golden Whip Stream?
The classic combo is “Bailong Elevator up to Yuanjiajie, shuttle to Tianzishan, Tianzishan Cableway down,” covering the two biggest areas in one day; Golden Whip Stream is flat and good for an easy hike on another day.
Yuanjiajie or Tianzishan — which is more worth seeing?
Both are highlights: Yuanjiajie for the shaped peaks of “Hallelujah Mountain” and the First Bridge Under Heaven, Tianzishan for Yubi Peak and wide panoramas over the sea of clouds. If time is tight, visit both (link them with the elevator up and the cableway down); if you must pick one, choose Yuanjiajie for dramatic peaks or Tianzishan for open cloud-sea views.
Do the Bailong Elevator and Tianzishan Cableway need separate tickets?
Yes. In-park transport such as the Bailong Elevator, the Tianzishan Cableway and the Ten-Mile Gallery mini-train all require separate tickets — buy one-way or round-trip as needed.
