Event Background and Valid Period
Starting from December 1, 2021, the Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Core Scenic Area launched the "Winter in Zhangjiajie, Grateful to All of China" 2021 Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Scenic Area Winter Ticket Discount Policy.
The valid period is December 1, 2021 – February 28, 2022, with the 2022 Spring Festival golden week excluded. That is to say, both the winter price and the high-speed rail discounts take effect during this period and do not apply during the Spring Festival golden week, so please check the dates before traveling.
1. Winter Ticket Prices Implemented at the Core Scenic Area
In accordance with the document of the Provincial Development and Reform Commission (Xiang Fa Gai Jia Fei Gui [2020] No. 722) and the document of the Municipal Tourism Work Committee (Zhang Lü Gong Wei Ban [2021] No. 42), from December 1, 2021 to February 28, 2022 (excluding the 2022 Spring Festival golden week), the main gate ticket of the Wulingyuan Core Scenic Area (including the eco-bus) is implemented at the winter ticket price:
- Full-price ticket 144 yuan/person (excluding insurance)
- Discount ticket 72 yuan/person (excluding insurance)
For visitors, this price already includes the eco-bus, so there is no need to buy a separate eco-bus ticket when transferring into the mountains; insurance is not included in the ticket price and must be handled separately.
2. Discount and Exemption Policy for Visitors Taking the Zhangjiajie–Jishou–Huaihua High-Speed Rail
1. Free tickets for the inaugural group. In accordance with the document of the Municipal Tourism Work Committee (Zhang Lü Gong Wei Ban [2021] No. 42), the Wulingyuan Core Scenic Area (including the eco-bus) implements a free-ticket policy for visitors of the Zhangjiajie–Jishou–Huaihua high-speed rail inaugural group, who need to pay the scenic area ticket system management and maintenance fee plus insurance totaling 8 yuan/person; the various transport facilities within the scenic area follow the same free-ticket policy.
2. Half price for direct-arrival visitors. In accordance with the same document, from December 6, 2021 to February 28, 2022 (excluding the Spring Festival golden week), the main gate ticket of the Wulingyuan Core Scenic Area (including the eco-bus) is implemented at half of the regular price, namely 113 yuan/person (excluding insurance), for visitors who take the Zhangjiajie–Jishou–Huaihua high-speed rail directly to Zhangjiajie, within 7 days from the date of arrival, upon presentation of their own ID card or household register and their own high-speed rail ticket (paper ticket usable as a reimbursement voucher only).
For specific discount groups taking the Zhangjiajie–Jishou–Huaihua high-speed rail ＜minors aged 14 (inclusive) to 18 (exclusive), elderly people aged 60 (inclusive) to 65 (exclusive), and full-time undergraduate students and below with valid documents＞, the discount ticket price of the winter ticket policy is implemented at 72 yuan/person (excluding insurance).
For specific free-ticket groups taking the Zhangjiajie–Jishou–Huaihua high-speed rail ＜applicable to children 1.2 meters (inclusive) and above to under 14 years old, elderly people 65 years old (inclusive) and above, people with disabilities, active-duty military personnel, retired military cadres, and fire and rescue personnel＞, the free-ticket policy of the winter ticket policy is implemented at 35 yuan/person (free ticket + half-price eco-bus, excluding insurance).
For children under 1.2 meters (exclusive) who do not occupy a seat, the free-ticket policy is implemented, with an insurance fee of 3 yuan/person; the various transport facilities within the scenic area follow the half-price discount policy.
Simply put: visitors arriving directly by high-speed rail are divided into four tiers by age and documents — 113 yuan, 72 yuan, 35 yuan, and 3 yuan. The key credentials are your own ID card or household register plus a paper high-speed rail ticket, and they must be used within 7 days from the date of arrival.
3. Policy Basis and Scope of Application
- The Zhangjiajie Municipal Tourism Work Committee's "Notice on Issuing the Work Plan for the 2021 Zhangjiajie Winter Tourism Marketing Series Activities 'Winter in Zhangjiajie, Grateful to All of China'" (Zhang Lü Gong Wei Ban [2021] No. 42), and the Wulingyuan District Tourism Work Committee's notice on issuing the "2021 Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Scenic Area Winter Ticket Discount Policy" (Zhang Wu Lü Wei Ban Fa [2021] No. 14).
- The Zhangjiajie Municipal Tourism Work Committee's "Notice on Issuing the Work Plan for the Zhangjiajie 'Fairyland Zhangjiajie, Grateful to Hunan' Activity" (Zhang Lü Gong Wei Ban [2021] No. 43), and the Wulingyuan District Tourism Work Committee's notice on issuing the "Operational Measures for the 'Fairyland Zhangjiajie, Grateful to Hunan' Activity Policy During Winter 2021" (Zhang Wu Lü Wei Ban Fa [2021] No. 15).
- The above discount policies apply to all independent travelers as well as travel agency groups; the content of the discount and reward policies available only through travel agency group channels is detailed in the above documents.
- Visitors are kindly requested to follow the national, provincial, municipal and district requirements for epidemic prevention and control, and to cooperate with the scenic area in implementing the various routine epidemic prevention and control measures. We wish you a pleasant journey.
Practical Tips
- The scenic area implements real-name timed reservations; in peak season it is advisable to book online in advance, as same-day tickets on site are limited and it is not recommended to take a chance at the last minute.
- For first-time visitors and those bringing elderly people or children, the East Gate (Wulingyuan Landmark Gate) is recommended, as Wulingyuan Town lies just outside the gate, making dining, accommodation and transfers convenient; if you want to hike Jinbian Stream, choose the South Gate.
- Transport within the park such as the Bailong Elevator, Tianzi Mountain Cableway and Shili Gallery mini-train requires separate tickets; try to plan your route as "elevator up, cableway down" to avoid backtracking.
- Private cars cannot be driven into the scenic area and must be parked in the parking lot outside the ticket station, then transfer to the scenic area eco-bus to enter.
- The mountain top is 5–8℃ lower than the foot of the mountain; in winter bring a down jacket and non-slip shoes; cableways and elevators may be temporarily suspended due to strong winds or ice, subject to the scenic area's announcements.
Current Implementation Standards
From January 1, 2025, the Wulingyuan Core Scenic Area abolished the difference between low and peak seasons, with a unified ticket of 165 yuan per person, valid for 4 consecutive days. Transport within the scenic area (eco-bus, etc.) is 71 yuan, and personal accident insurance is 3 yuan, totaling 239 yuan for the three items. This site treats the 3 yuan insurance as complimentary, so visitors actually pay 236 yuan. It should be noted that: 165 yuan is only the price of the ticket itself, excluding scenic area transport and insurance, so there is no need to be puzzled by the three figures 165, 236 and 239 — they refer to different scopes.
