Classic photo spots

  • Mihun Terrace / Back Garden: overlooks the Yuanjiajie peak forest — best when the sea of clouds churns;
  • The First Bridge Under Heaven: a natural stone bridge spanning two peaks — shoot wide from below for impact;
  • Yubi Peak platform: the iconic Tianzishan pillars, good for a telephoto compression;
  • Golden Whip Stream: low angles of the stream and flanking peaks; a slow shutter suits the water.

Best time

Early morning and right after rain are best, when mist drifts among the peaks; harsh midday light suits documentary shots. Autumn (September–November) offers the clearest air and visibility.

Gear

  • Wide angle (16–35 mm) for big peak scenes; medium telephoto (70–200 mm) to compress the ranges;
  • A tripod for sunrise, the sea of clouds and slow-shutter streams; a polarizer to cut glare and boost saturation;
  • The valleys are cool, damp and misty — watch for lens fog and keep gear warm.

FAQ

What does the Forest Park admission include?
The admission covers entry to core areas such as the Forest Park, Tianzishan, Yangjiajie, Golden Whip Stream and the Ten-Mile Gallery; it is valid for 4 days with unlimited re-entry. In-park transport (Bailong Elevator, Tianzishan Cableway, shuttle buses) needs separate tickets.
Can I finish the Forest Park in one day?
Yes, but only the highlights. The park is large and a full visit is best over 2–3 days; for one day, focus on Yuanjiajie + Tianzishan.
What are the highlights and features of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park?
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was China’s first national forest park and is the core of the Wulingyuan World Natural Heritage site. It is famed for more than three thousand quartz-sandstone pillars — “an enlarged bonsai, a miniature wonderland.” The key sights are Yuanjiajie (Hallelujah Mountain), Tianzishan (Yubi Peak), Golden Whip Stream and Huangshizhai; a visit usually takes 2–3 days.
What is the relationship between the Forest Park and Wulingyuan?
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the core of the Wulingyuan World Natural Heritage site. “Wulingyuan” generally refers to this area of peak forests — Yuanjiajie, Tianzishan, Golden Whip Stream, Yangjiajie and the Ten-Mile Gallery; visiting the Forest Park means visiting the heart of Wulingyuan.
