Call for submissions for the 2016 Yangjiajie Cup "Ecological Wulingyuan" National Photography Exhibition

Origins of Wulingyuan Scenic Area and Photo Exhibition

The 2016 Yangjiajie Cup "Ecological Wulingyuan" Photography Exhibition was launched in Beijing. Wulingyuan Scenic Area is located in Zhangjiajie City in the northwest of Hunan Province. It consists of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Suoxiyu Nature Reserve, Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve, and Yangjiajie Scenic Area. With a total area of 398 square kilometers, it is dominated by the rare quartz sandstone peak forest canyon (Zhangjiajie landform) landscape in the world. The natural landscape is extremely beautiful and unique, and the species resources are also very rich. It is known as the "Natural Museum and Natural Botanical Garden". After 30 years of development and construction, Wulingyuan Scenic Area has developed into China's first national forest park, the first batch of world natural heritages, the first batch of world geological parks, the first batch of national 5A tourist attractions, and national civilized scenic tourist areas. It has many international and domestic laurels. The forest coverage rate in the whole area is 83%, and the forest coverage rate in the core scenic spots is 98%. The water source qualification rate is 99.6%. The negative oxygen ions in the air in the scenic spots are hundreds of thousands of units per cubic centimeter. Zhangjiajie’s air quality ranks first among the 149 key cities in the country. The number of days it maintains good quality throughout the year has reached more than 350 days, making it a veritable “natural oxygen bar”.

In order to further promote the beautiful scenery of Wulingyuan and provide photographers with a platform to showcase their photography talents, the China Photographers Association, Popular Photography magazine and the Wulingyuan District People's Government of Zhangjiajie City decided to jointly organize the "2016 Zhangjiajie "Ecological Wulingyuan" Photography Exhibition". Domestic and foreign photography groups, photographers, and photography enthusiasts are sincerely invited to focus on the theme of "Ecological Wulingyuan" and use the tags of "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Colorful Creatures, and Fun in the Year of the Monkey" to select their best works for the exhibition.

Exhibition Theme and Four Seasons Interpretation

① Spring theme (March, April, May): Spring is warm and flowers are blooming. Explanation of the theme: In the sea of rapeseed flowers, you can see the poetic pastoral of Huanglong Cave, layer upon layer; on the top of the cherry blossom tree, you can see the wanton and unruly blooming of Tianzi Mountain on the cliff; deep in the peach blossoms, you can see the clouds of Shili Gallery. Life is always full of passion. Encountering the beautiful Baofeng Lake awakens the style of Xiangxi in the mountains. What conveys the message of spring in your shots?

②Summer theme (June, July, and August): Explanation of the cool summer theme: encounter coolness in the thrilling rafting of slalom; meet coolness in the silvery blue waves of Baofeng Lake. The coolness for you is the deep green valleys and gurgling water of the Golden Whip Creek Grand Canyon, the refreshing and leisurely atmosphere of the Purple Grass Lake; the coolness for me is the turbulent wind and clouds at the corner of Yaozizhai, the gentle and delicate peaks of Yuanjiajie, the majestic peak walls of Yangjiajie, and the hot style of Xibu Street. What kind of images do all kinds of scenery leave behind in your shots?

③Autumn theme (September, October, and November): Explanation of the theme of dyeing the forest: yearning is the right of autumn, the world of yearning, and the miracle of color. The clouds in Yangjiajie miss the rain and the vast sea and sky; the leaves in Tianzi Mountain miss the wind, circling and dancing; the red leaves in Laomo Bay miss the earth with their lives; the deep love in the Golden Whip Creek Grand Canyon flows between heaven and earth! Taking advantage of the strong autumn mood, we put our cameras on our backs, stroll through the autumn colors, and appreciate the autumn flavor. In this season, which is most suitable for contemplation, we continue on the road...

④Winter theme (December, January, February): Ice and Snow Kingdom Theme explanation: Yuanjiajie in the rain is still a green forest. Are you waiting for the snow to fall in Huangshi Village? Or are you waiting for the flowers to bloom in Yangjiajie? Or turn a corner and wait for the rough waves and rolling clouds after the snow in Tianzi Mountain. The lights dimmed, and the warmth and warmth of the Tujia family catching up with the New Year filled the air. The fairy tale world of romance, flowers, snow and moon will ignite the passion and fantasy of your life. Let us follow your lens and listen to your story of snow.

⑤Interpretation of the theme of colorful creatures: squirrels running around with fruits, pheasants hiding in the bushes, giant salamanders that have remained motionless for thousands of years in the blue pool, transparent glass fish, flaming red pond herons, various beautiful mountain flowers, dove trees like doves flying all over the tree, lobster flowers in the green grass, flying colorful butterflies... Use the camera in your hand to record this scene full of wild interest.

⑥Explanation of the theme of the Year of the Monkey: The mild climate and dense forests have created a good environment for animals to survive and reproduce. The number of wild macaques in the scenic area has grown from the original 300 to 5,000 today. Smart and agile macaques can be seen everywhere in the forest and on the sidewalks. Please use photography to capture precious images of China’s wild macaques under the influence of human society at various scales or angles.
